From Kampala to Leicester Exhibition
From Kampala to Leicester Exhibition 2012- Navrang in partnership with Leicester City Council Arts and Museum Service delivered a Heritage Lottery Fund Project called Celebrating 40 years of Ugandan Asians in Leicester.
As part of the project, oral histories and objects signifying lives of Ugandan Asians were collected and a major exhibition was installed at the New Walk Museum and Art Gallery in Leicester, called ‘From Kampala to Leicester’. In two and a half months, around 50,000 visitors visited the exhibition and it attracted national and international interest through media coverage in Kenya, Uganda, India.A series of events accompanied the exhibition . These included talks, discussions, film shows and workshops.
A travelling exhibition has also also created. This toured many venues in the city including schools, community centres and libraries and is available for exhibition free of charge.
'From Kampala to Leicester' exhibition has now been housed as a permanent exhibition at Newarke Houses Museum, a social history museum in Leicester. We are proud to say that this is the first permanent Asian history exhibition in Leicester. It is also an inclusive exhibition, as it forms part of The Story of Leicester.
